INSPIRATION
I am a performing artist from Bangalore , My Initial training Background was yoga and martial arts but later I studied choreography and performing arts in academies in Europe. I use methods of physical practice inspired by martial arts and experiment through working and travelling.
My work surrounds collaboration with artists, researching , travelling and studying about culture . During my travels I propose research which has been developed from the past 10 years through workshops and performance, Often directed towards the performance. As I believe performance is a part of artistic practice and development of the research.
I work with artists creating composition through structured improvisation. I identify movement and its connection with our social conditioning and how it can be identified and expressed. Certain expressions and qualities in our bodies speak to our culture and identity. While identifying its emotional value and how it can be expressed through movement. Our practice follows certain fundamental elements involving breath work, energy and speed. We are inspired by certain spiritual practices like yoga and indian martial arts called kalaripayattu.
FALL BACK : Proposed Project for Bangalore Residency Expanded
The Proposed Project is Called FALL BACK. Its a Solo concept which I have been researching post pandemic which deals with Isolation. I always been fascinated about human behaviour during hard times. The reaction and frustration which follows and the feel of loneliness and how that triggers many of our positive and negative thoughts. Fall back is about loosing balance and recovering which I am going to explore through movements. The direction of the fall is a choice and reaction is spontaneous. a fall which happens without expectation, how to invent an accidental moment to create a fall , for this I am coming up with certain compositional methods where the body falls by mistake, the best composition happens in a traffic jam or in crowded places. Where bodies understand space and reacts through impulses, the mistakes which happens during this process does create an accidental fall. Thus creates a shocking moment and sometimes trauma.
Lets say we choose the fall we have certain predictions, we understand bodies and our capacities through our physical practices , things happen because we choose, not according to expectations but an alternative truth, which is normally uncomfortable because we are not used to certain fall and feeling of the fall. A drunk person does not feel pain in the fall and a sober person does . What happens to our bodies in a drunk state , is it a same as a roller coaster fall , what is a controlled fall ?
Movement exploration deals with questions and its relation to our minds when we go through various incidents in life. If circumstances changes how we move , what about a movement which can change our circumstances, is this reversible?
Objectives : Movement always changed our situation in the past and the awareness is what required to make it happen, a movement which teaches us how to fall. A fall which requires stillness. A fall which gives us strength, a fall to recover, a fall to wake up and A fall to give up.
