7697 MILES
Project of Cristobal Rawlins (Raw-C) from Santiago de Chile and Dieter Mauson (Occupied Head) from Hamburg, Germany.
7697 MILES is the distance between both cities. The musicians met in Hamburg in June 2016. Cristóbal at that time lived in Berlin for 3 months to work on his new solo album and to play some concerts in Europe. Some weeks later Dieter visited Cristóbal in Berlin and they started to record music. Before returning to Santiago Cristóbal saw Dieter in Hamburg and they went on with their studio work. In January 2017 Dieter travelled to Santiago and 7697 MILES played a small tour in Chile. They did some spontaneous concerts in Santiago, Pitchilemu, Pucón and Puerto Varas and recorded new material in Cobquecura (in the Biobío Region) and in Curarrehue (in the countryside of Araucanía). They also had a session with local musicians on the Island of Chiloé. A small tour took place in summer 2017 when Cristóbal came back to Europe. 7697 MILES played concerts in the Netherlands, Belgium, Lithuania and Germany (among them a four-hour gig at the Braille Satellite festival in Lithuania).
In May 2018 they released their debut album titled ‘Kiñe’ (which means ‘one’ in Mapugudun, the language of the Mapuche, the native Chillean) on Attenuation Circuit in Augsburg, Germany.
Short after that Dieter and Cristóbal met again – this time in Lima, Peru where they recorded new material in Lima, Cusco and at KAI – an artist residence in the Sacred Valley of the Inkas. They also played concerts in Lima, Cusco and at a festival in Ollantaytambo near Machu Picchu. A tour in Mexico was planned for 2020 which could not take place due to travel restrictions. Their second album titled ‘Iskay’ which means ‘two’ in Quechua (the main language of the Inca Empire) was released on vinyl on Buh Records in Lima, Peru in September 2020. Only a week later Sonorous Chamber, a label from England, released a 7697 Miles track on their digital debut sampler.
Meanwhile Cristóbal and Dieter had no chance to see each other but they went on recording, this time exchanging files. Lately Spomenik, a Greek label, released their third album on tape called ‘Cla’ (which means ‘three’ in Mapugudun) including tracks recorded on their Chilean tour in 2017 and the ones recorded in 2021 exchanging files. Cristóbal came to Europe in July 2022 and they are playing a tour in Germany and Lithuania in July/August. They also started recording their fourth album. A tour in Colombia is planned for 2023.
